Sport Overview

Postponement has been decided for the World Masters Games 2021 Kansai.
The new dates are being arranged.
Please note that the followings are the information before the postponement was confirmed.

Open water swimming is a long-distance swimming event held in the ocean, rivers, lakes or other natural water settings. Competitors not only need fast swimming skills, but also knowledge and experience for swimming safely in natural waters. A 1km, 3km and 5km race will be held in the World Masters Games 2021 Kansai.

A: Championship Level (Non-wetsuit)
* When the water temperature is below 20°C wetsuit (complied with FINA regulations) is permitted and when the water temperature is below 18°C wetsuits are compulsory.
B: Recreational Level (Wetsuit permitted)

Eligibility

Persons with impairments are limited to those who can participate under the same conditions as healthy people

Age Requirement

Minimum age is 25 (born on or before 31st December 1997)
In line with the sport-specific rules, an athlete must compete in their designated age group, thus, age determined as at 31st December 2022.
(Ex. if you are 39 during Games time but have turned 40 by 31st December 2022, you would compete in the 40+ age category.
