This article is based on the coverage conducted from January to February 2021. In principle, the coverage was conducted taking counter measures against Covid-19 (to wear a mask, etc.) recommended at that time.
Following “～ Kinokawa City, Wakayama Prefecture”,this is the second article of “Going on a little trip with my road bike”.
For cycling in Senshu district (southwest Osaka) starting at Izumisano City, which is on the opposite bank of Kansai International Airport, there is Route Kaizuka/Kishiwadaintroduced in Part 1. In addition, there is Route Sennan which you can see the venue for WMG2021’s Open Water competitions on the route.

【②Route Sennan】Place 01. Senshu towel has a history of over 130 years! “Senshu Towel Kan” at “Rinku Premium Outlets”
A towel, an essential item for sports.
It is said that towel making in Japan first begun in Sennan City. “Senshu towel” is the towel brand that represents Japan and it has a history of more than 130 years.
I had many towels that are given to those who participated in marathons or finished marathons. I used to think that’ll do, but after using Senshu towel, “I was wrong!” I felt bad.
“Senshu Towel Kan” at “Rinku Premium Outlets” has towels for various purposes and they come in various colours. It is exciting just looking around the store. When I found a towel in my skin colour, I felt an urge like, “I want to use this soon!”, “I want to do exercise!”.
Here are my favourite towels.

【②Route Sennan】Place 02. One of the most famous cable-stayed bridge in Japan, “Tajiri Sky Bridge”
“Tajiri Sky Bridge” is a huge bridge that connects “Rinku Port Minami (south)” and “Rinku Port Kita (north)”. It is one of the most famous cable-stayed bridge in Japan; 338.1 m long, 26.3 m wide, 110 m high. The bridge is also known as a Monster Bridge along with Sennan Marine Bridge, and it is a landmark of Tajiri-Cho.
The bridge is included in “KIX Senshu International Marathon” course and there are many runners, road bikers and walkers. I often go there for jogging or cycling. Osaka Bay is shining so brightly in front of me! Sometimes I can see aeroplanes taking off or landing at Kansai International Airport, and I feel refreshed.

■Tajiri Sky Bridge

【②Route Sennan】Place 03. Another holy place of love, “Sennan Marble Beach'
Sennan City, the host city of WMG2021’s Open Water, has “Sennan Marble Beach' which is chosen for one of the “Holy places of love”. Along with “Tarui Southern Beach” where the competitions will be held, the view from this beach is chosen for one of the “Top 100 sunset view in Japan”.
Enjoy the golden sunset view with the huge heart shaped monument.

【②Route Sennan】Place 04. Enjoy “Sennan Conger eel” at “Umino Marche” held on weekends
Along 2 beaches of Sennan City, there is an urban recreation facility called “SENNAN LONG PARK”, which is approx. 2 km long from north to south. At “Marche area” near the heart shaped monument, “Umino Marche (Sea market)” opens every weekend.
There is no other place you can eat “Sennan conger eel” that is famous for having delicious thick meat!
Sennan conger eels are farm raised by local “Okadaura Fisheries cooperative” and Kindai University, since catches of conger eels have been going down in recent years. At G20 summit held in Osaka, dishes served for government representatives had been made using ingredients collected from all over Japan. “Sennan conger eel” was one of them.
There is no other place you can eat “Sennan conger eel” that is famous for having delicious thick meat!

【②Route Sennan】Place 05. You can see more than 3,000 plants of over 200 different types of roses at “David Austin English Rose Garden” at peak bloom time.
A rose breeding company, “David Austin Roses Ltd”, gains overwhelming support from rose lovers from all over the world. And this rose garden is the only garden outside the UK operated by the company.
It is one of the biggest garden in the world and you can see more than 3,000 plants of over 200 different types of roses there at peak bloom time. I guarantee that visitors will be enchanted by the view and will be fascinated by the scent.

【②Route Sennan】Place 06. “Rinsho-ji” temple with “Horin-no-niwa” garden made by a landscaping genius
“Horin-no-niwa” garden is a work of a landscaping genius, Mr. Mirei SHIGEMORI, who is famous for producing “Honbo Teien” garden at “Tofuku-ji” temple in Kyoto and “Hachijin no niwa” garden at Kishiwada castle in Osaka. You can see spectacular view of azalea from the late April, and Satsuki azalea from the late May.

【②Route Sennan】Place 07. Mini version of Shikoku 88 Temple Pilgrimage
Across two mountains behind “Rinsho-ji” temple, there is a mini version of Shikoku 88 Temple Pilgrimage.
Every year on 15th January, a guided tour is held by Sennan City Tourism Association, which you can visit the mini version of Shikoku 88 Temple Pilgrimage, and then watch mountain priests holding “Gomadaki” ceremony, and you can also try walking over burning coals. If you join this event and complete visiting 88 points, you get a certificate. To look around the 88 points, you can hire a guide from “Sennan Annainin no kai (Sennan Guide Group)” through the Tourism Association.

From serious marine sports to the authentic English garden
Did you like the both cycling routes to go around Senshu district in southern Osaka, where there is Kansai International Airport? It is easily accessible even if you are there for the first time. Please enjoy being in Senshu.

For example, Osaka Prefectural “Rinku Koen” park has a lot more to see as well as the places I introduced in “Going on a little trip with my road bike ～ Senshu, Osaka Prefecture (Part 1)”. Also, I really like the website of “Nishikinohama Koen” park. Why don’t you check the website of the parks near you?
